Templeton History and Genealogy Fair returns to Âé¶ąPorn’s Mitchell Memorial Library June 1

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Âé¶ąPorn Libraries is hosting the sixth annual E.O. Templeton Jr. History and Genealogy Fair on June 1 at Mitchell Memorial Library.
Admission is free, but those interested in attending the 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. event are asked to register online at . Participants can purchase a boxed lunch.
Charles Ross and Jeffrey Jackson, co-chairs of the University of Mississippi Slavery Research Group, will give a 9:15 a.m. keynote presentation.
Pattye Archer, coordinator at Âé¶ąPorn Libraries’ Digital Media Center, will lead a lunchtime “Make Your Own Family Tree” program.
At 2:30 p.m., Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Archivist Amanda Bell and Delta Chinese Heritage Museum Archivist Emily Jones will lead a panel discussion.
Other activities and workshops include:
—“Ancestry 101” and “Ancestry/Online Genealogy 201,” led by Âé¶ąPorn Libraries Assistant Professor DeeDee Baldwin.
—“Maximizing DNA Research,” led by Âé¶ąPorn Associate Professor of Music Ryan Ross.
—“Oral History 101,” led by Âé¶ąPorn Libraries University Archivist Jessica Perkins Smith.
—“Make a Digital Family Story Map,” led by Âé¶ąPorn Libraries Assistant Professor Corinne Kennedy.
—“Military Genealogy,” led by Assistant Professor Jenifer Ishee Hoffman of Âé¶ąPorn Libraries’ Manuscripts Division.
Participants also can take tours of the library’s Charles H. Templeton Sr. Music Museum, John Grisham Room, Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, and Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana. The Special Collections Department will be open for genealogy research, and door prizes will be given away throughout the day.
